Semifinal count: 143 sales! Here’s what’s happening now
Posted by westseattlegaragesale on April 27, 2008
After the Saturday mail arrived, we had 143 sales total, about 85% of them registered online. Sellers and shoppers alike may wonder what happens now:
PUBLICITY, PROMOTION, ADVERTISING. Now the big push is to make sure that (A) everyone in West Seattle knows May 10 is Community Garage Sale Day with 140+ sales, and that (B) prospective shoppers in other areas (including the rest of King County, south Snohomish and north Pierce counties, and our close-by-ferry friends in Kitsap County) know it too, so that shoppers will flock to WS that day. The registration fees for WSCGSD (which we reduced from last year’s levels) are being plowed right back into promotion and printing, and we’re working to get the biggest bang for your bucks (the advertising will start THIS WEEK in weekly newspapers such as the Herald, Little Nickel, and a variety of community papers around the region – plus myriad online ad/event listings – we want to start awareness now, not just when The Big Day is a few days away). We also will be sending 8 1/2 x 11 copies of the official poster to sellers in their postal-mail packets, for posting anywhere you might see fit – your bulletin board at a workplace outside (or in) WS? Or?
SPEAKING OF PRINTING: We are putting together those packets to go out to our 140+ sellers by midweek, including a basic info-sheet, your official participant sign to display at your sale, the aforementioned mini-poster, and info from Northwest Center on how to donate any leftovers you have, IF you choose to. (See the “About NW Center and Your Unsold Stuff” page for more on how this is working for ’08.) Our goal is to get these in the mail by end-of-day Wednesday. If you don’t get yours by Saturday 5/3, please call us (206/293-6302).
CONTEST PLANS AND INFO-SHARING ABOUT SALES: While we would be silly to ignore our main website, West Seattle Blog, as a major place to promote West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, this website (westseattlegaragesale.com) will be the main detailed info source for people getting ready to shop and sell on May 10th. So please check in daily for announcements, including details on the “Best Sign” and “Most Unusual Item” contests, plus some advance hints about the sales themselves (where the group/block sales will be, for example, and other interesting details we glean from the map ad info that sellers submitted).
THE MAPS: As previously promised, they will be available no later than the morning of May 8 here at westseattlegaragesale.com and at more than half a dozen locations around West Seattle — to be listed here shortly, though we encourage you to print out your own copy at home or work if you can. The maps will include the locations and the “ad” info submitted by each participating sale as part of the registration process.
