Promotional lessons along the way

-Don’t leave magic-marker-lettered posters on sandwich boards in the rain. We had two of them (recycling unused registration posters by making interim posters to put in a couple key spots on Sunday) that looked like runny mascara by the time we rescued them at day’s end. Today, we’re printing the official ones.
-Some publications with classified ads (based outside WS, but we do need to let the rest of the world know about WSCGSD) don’t seem to get the concept of a “Community Garage Sale Day” and insist on charging commercial rates. Ouch. On one hand, they’re probably thinking there are 140-plus sales that would be placing individual ads if not for the big coordinated campaign. On the other hand, we suspect a lot of folks wouldn’t be having sales at all if not for the community aspect, and might enjoy it enough to have ‘independent’ sales in the future.
-Writing the official “press release” within a day or so. Since we spent a quarter-century working in “conventional media,” we’re hoping we can write it cleverly enough to get more attention for West Seattle and YOUR SALES! Stay tuned …
