Here’s a bit more from our White Center Now site – we’re awaiting more word from the Shorewood folks on how to get their map, which we’re told is not available so far online. WSCGSD 2010, the aftermath: Picture of the day?

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 10, 2010

A shopper, photographed by a seller. Thanks to everybody for the feedback, constructive as well as complimentary … this was our third year of presenting/coordinating West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day, after founding organization Megawatt created it and carried it through the first three years, and we tweak it a bit every year. Hoping to find a better way to make the map next time around, to ensure nobody ever gets clipped from the westernmost shores of West Seattle to the easternmost slopes … also wondering if the second Saturday is the best day … it’s conflicted with Seattle Maritime Day every year … maybe the third Saturday is better? Any thoughts, leave comments, and thanks again for being a shopper, seller, reader, whatever.

WSCGSD 2010, the aftermath: 1 man, 52 sales!

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 8, 2010

Brian reported on Facebook that he’d been to 52 of today’s almost-200 sales – we asked how in the world he managed that, and here’s his reply:

“I was on my scooter which allowed me to move fast through neighborhoods. There were several stops where there were three yard sales at one stop and lots of unofficial yard sales next to each other. I saw only one official yard sale sign posted. I ran out of money and went home. I spent five hours riding around so it worked out to 10.4 an hour or six min per stop. Many of the sales I could stop at the curb and view all the stuff and just take off. I avoided lots of traffic jams and parking issues by not being in a car. At one yard sale a guy thought my bike was for sale because I parked on the side walk. I started up in Gatewood neighborhood and worked my way all the way down to the junction. “

Community Garage Sale Day extra: West Seattle Tool Library donations/”scavengers”

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 8, 2010

In the lot at 44th/Edmunds, where you can donate leftovers (sellers who have any!) later, you can go see the West Seattle Tool Library team to donate tools for the upcoming lending library. The folks in our photograph are heading out with “scavenger teams” to seek and buy tools for the library (with a small budget so if you’re selling any, offer them a deal!). We’ll be checking back with them at day’s end. You can also donate tools today at the Alki Bike and Board Sale (#19 on the map), Aaron’s Bicycle Repair in Morgan Junction, and the north lot of South Seattle Community Collegemore info here.

West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day 2010 map updates: 1 addition, 2 3 deletions

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 6, 2010

We now have three changes to The Map. One of the first sales to register did not make it onto the map – our apologies, and PLEASE note this sale – it is now on the updated Google Map (which you can see here), with a big blue marker! It’s at 3250 62nd SW.

Also, two sales have now canceled because of last-minute emergencies: #105 and #149. Again, the Google Map is updated, but the printable map cannot be updated, so please manually scratch them out (and add 3250 62nd SW – its ad is also in the Google Map when you click the aforementioned blue marker). Thanks – just two days to go! Forecast still looks good – National Weather Service says “partly sunny” for Saturday.

2:25 PM UPDATE: We’ve had a third cancellation – sale #95. It’s also now off the Google Map, but be sure to scratch it off your printed map if you’ve already printed one.

2 cancellations – please scratch off your “printable” map

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 6, 2010

Sales 105 and 149 have now canceled because of last-minute problems – we can’t take them off the printable map but if you have already printed yours, please scratch them off – we HAVE deleted them off the Google Map, which will continue to be updated as needed up till sale day. That still leaves not only 198 sale locations BUT also hundreds more sellers through the group sites. Coming later today: School sales in the spotlight! P.S. Weather looks good for Saturday – “partly sunny” !

And now there are two … map versions (Google and printable)

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 4, 2010

Just four days till the 6th annual – and biggest ever – West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day: 200 sales (with hundreds more sellers, thanks to group sale sites, organization/school/business/block sales, etc.)! What you see above is the Google Map we made available on Saturday night; today, we also have the “printable” map, completely different format, including the map sliced into sections, and all 200 sales listed in numerical order (which is roughly #1 in the north to #200 in the south). Here’s the 12-page Word doc (6 pages if you print both sides). (added) Also, a PDF version if you’d rather print it that way. Keep checking here before sale day in case there are any updates.

2010 West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day map – the Google version first

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 1, 2010

We are still finalizing the printable map – but first we want to publish the link to the Google Map, particularly so that if you are a registered seller and you don’t see your sale on there, you can let us know in time to fix it. We are not distributing a lot of preprinted hard copies this year – just a few hundred for those who absolutely don’t have printers – so that means any omission is more fixable than ever. We have checked and doublechecked and done our best, but if you don’t see yourself, please e-mail garagesale@westseattleblog.com ASAP and we’ll check into it. Meantime, here’s the Google Map online version – the printable version will be a different format, with the peninsula map “cut” into several pieces, and the listings grouped together 1-200.

Update for 2010 West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day sellers

Posted by westseattlegaragesale on May 1, 2010

Two notes, since we’re getting a few questions:

**Two sale participants have e-mailed to say they saw the map and wanted to know why they’re on it. If you think you’ve seen a Garage Sale Day map, please take a closer look, because it’s NOT the 2010 map. The 2008-2009 maps may be out there somewhere via Google, and certainly in the archives here, but they are clearly labeled by year. This year’s map will be posted here by Saturday night, and will be clearly announced as this year’s map.

**We are stuffing envelopes for sale packets today. They contain your “official participant” 8 1/2 x 11 signcard (in a festive light green this year, a welcome letter, and information on donating “leftovers” via Northwest Center if you are interested. If you don’t receive yours by Wednesday, call 206-293-6302 and we’ll get you one – last couple years we wound up running one or two over to folks whose packet got lost in the mail, but the overall success rate has been pretty good.

Thanks for your patience!
