Just a quick word of thanks, as we all continue recovering from a West Seattle Community Garage Sale Day that was far sunnier than we expected (among other attributes) … thanks for being part of it, thanks for sharing photos, updates, and thanks for taking the time to meet your neighbors from far and near who stopped by. Next year’s WSCGSD will be the second Saturday as usual, which means it’s May 12, 2018!

I wish this was held the weekend AFTER Mother’s Day. Not only would more people be likely to shop and sell but the weather would have an extra week to act like spring, It was heck trying to set up in the pouring rain on Friday, Albeit we did pretty good because the weather report was wrong.

Hi! I wish there were a perfect weekend but this is what the founders of WSCGSD chose and there just isn’t any place ideal to move it –
some years the second Saturday IS after Mother’s Day, in fact. And if it were the third Saturday, it would bump up against a bunch of other stuff, like Memorial Day preps; any later in the spring/summer, you’re competing against festival season, etc.
As for the weather, unfortunately there are no guarantees at any time of year – we have been active participants in/sponsors of local events since starting WSB in 2007 and we have been poured on at Summer Fest in mid-July, had Outdoor Movies rainouts in August …
Last year was the first WSCGSD in eight years that we had any rain – the first one that we coordinated (the fourth year overall), in 2008, there was a morning shower, and then it cleared up; after that, great weather for 09, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 … and we got some rain last year … this year I was so worried, I stayed up all night Friday night (OK, until quarter past 4) all but willing the rain to stop. Sometime pre-dawn it did. Glad to hear you did OK! – TR
